Flight Information Display System for Air Traffic Services Situational Awareness
UK
Inverness
Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd
Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL) operates and manages eleven airports throughout the north of Scotland and plays a vital role in the Scotland’s air transport network. A mixture of Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) provision ensures delivery of the required level of Air Traffic Service (ATS) to support lifeline and commercial air operations. As part of its continuing effort to enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of its ATS, HIAL intents to install Flight Information Display (FID) systems at six of its airports operating in uncontrolled airspace (Class G) without conventional ground-based surveillance systems. When operational, the new FID systems will provide Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) and Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officers (AFISOs) with enhanced situational awareness via the display of an integrated, cooperative real time air picture. This project, which represents a significant investment by HIAL, supports the UK Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS) and will provide enhanced safety and efficiency benefits whilst achieving best value for investment. The Project aims to deliver FIDS to Kirkwall, Dundee and Stornoway Airports in financial year 2023/2024, and to Benbecula, Islay and Wick John O'Groats Airports in 2024/2025.

Deliberative research to inform Just Transition Sector Plans
UK
Edinburgh
University Of Edinburgh
This project has two key aims. The first aim is to uncover informed, considered and collective public opinion on the fair distribution of costs and benefits in the transition to net zero emissions in three key sectors: Transport, Land Use and Agriculture, and Buildings and Construction. The second aim is to gather learning into the factors influencing any changes in participants’ attitudes, beliefs or values as a result of engaging in this deliberative process. The concept of ‘fairness’ is fundamental to delivering a just transition. However, determining what ‘fair’ means in practice, particularly when seeking to deliver a fair distribution of costs and benefits from the transition (i.e. distributive justice), raises complex moral and ethical questions.

The Provision of The Scottish Household Survey and The Scottish Health Survey (2024)
UK
Glasgow
Scottish Government
The SHS was first commissioned in 1998, when devolution preparations had identified a need to improve information sources in Scotland. It has run every year since then, and provides critical information on the characteristics, attitudes and behaviours of the population (social survey), as well as the physical condition of dwellings (physical survey). It is used by the Scottish Government and external stakeholders to inform policy making, evaluation and spending decisions across a wide range of areas, including poverty, housing, transport, local government, public services, internet, sport, culture, natural environment, volunteering, social capital and justice. The survey underpins multiple published performance frameworks (including the National Performance Framework and the Local Government Benchmarking Framework), and enables the monitoring of progress against legislative targets (including fuel poverty and climate change).

PS22482 - The provision of an independent national body to deliver the vision of the national electrification skills framework and forum - RFP
UK
Swindon
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) – Innovate UK
Rationale for the interventionInnovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, seeks to fund an independent national body to administer and govern the vision for a NESFF as set out in the report. To date the NESFF has been led by WMG. Now we are seeking to fund dedicated resource to support the continued development and, most importantly, the implementation of NESFF. This intervention is needed to ensure that sufficient resource is allocated to enable the UK to continue to develop and deliver the vision of NESFF. The reason for this intervention is to therefore provide the dedicated, independent resource to deliver the vision for NESFF, which would not be possible otherwise as there is currently no solely dedicated resource to lead this activity. The role of this funded body will be to ensure that the main stakeholders are brought together to support the most pressing electrification skills needs. Battery and power electronics, machines and drives (PEMD) manufacturing must be included in this initially funded period (other electrification technology areas may form part of the work but battery and PEMD manufacturing must be addressed). The independent national body will ensure that main stakeholders are engaged through the forum aspect. The framework aspect will involve continual horizon scanning and stakeholder engagement to identify areas of priority across all relevant technologies and sectors (manufacturing of batteries, power electronics, machines and drives for transport applications must be included) and develop the workforce development framework to enable these technologies to be delivered. The independent national body (the “INB”) will champion the need for electrification workforce development programmes across all skills level. The current training provision at all levels and career stages is insufficient to support incumbent electrification technologies. In line with this the INB will also champion the need to expand the talent pool and encourage greater inclusion and diversity to enable the UK to resource its net zero ambitions. Aim of the initiative Innovate UK seeks to fund a single organisation or consortium of organisations to lead the administrative, management and governance function of the National Electrification Skills Framework and Forum (National-Electrification-Skills-Forum-Brochure-FINAL.pdf (catapult.org.uk)) and effectively own what is currently the “NESFF” initiative. The vision for the National Electrification Skills Framework and Forum is to enable the transition to electrification through a coordinated approach to workforce development. The aim of this intervention is to create an independent body that can lead the NESFF initiative and facilitate a coordinated approach to workforce development. Objectives of the independent national bodyThe INB will deliver against the national framework, with the following objectives:1. National Electrification Skills Framework and Forum is a long-term functioning and operational body2. NESFF is recognised as the leader of the national electrification skills agenda3. Stakeholders are united behind the common NESFF vision 4. The common NESFF vision is implemented

Transport and Infrastructure Research & Development (R&D) Partner
UK
COVENTRY
Coventry City Council
Coventry City Council ("the Council") has opted to run a Competitive procedure with negotiation under the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2016 and is seeking to appoint a framework of Research & Development (R&D) partners.Coventry City Council ("the Council") has been and will continue to develop the living and working environment within Coventry through a series of programmes that improve the transport infrastructure to attract inward investment and drive the transition from fossil fuel transport to sustainable transportation solutions. One key project in this drive for modal shift is the Coventry Very Light Rail (VLR) project. This project is to develop a VLR product that can be manufactured predominantly in the West Midlands that will drive modal shift within small to medium size urban environments, consistent with many cities within the UK where a standard tram system would not be economically feasible. This system will be a low capital cost for installation and will be environmentally clean at the point of use, which will have a positive impact on air quality, this modal shift is designed to reduce congestion, and as a result, open up the city for investment especially along the route. The approach that the Council has taken to achieve the ambition outlined above is one of innovation and development. This framework of R&D Partners is to develop relationships with organisations that can support all phases of product development from ideation through to market ready product. It is understood that any R&D Partner will need to be able to exercise a support framework of subcontractors and suppliers to achieve the service offering of the full technology development cycle.By setting out the why, what and how of the Council's expectations, this document is intended to describe the relational foundation on which the Council and R&D Partners will team up to achieve those objectives. The Council is seeking R&D partners that provide services that include, but are not limited to:• Project management and cost control• Innovation funding, and the development and identification of funding streams• Ideation - investigation of current technologies and new developments• Analysis and testing• Prototyping• Subcontractor management• Market readiness and business case development including whole life analysis• Design for manufacture, assembly, value engineering• Product life (FATS, SATS, Durability etc.) testing and industry approvals• Very low volume, low volume manufacturing strategy development.• Technical contract specification• Strategic stakeholder engagement• Technical expertise in support of field trails of products and the application of products toward developing the technology readiness levels• Development of digital analysis and data models.• Development of products through the technology readiness levels.• Operation and maintenance of products / components during tests and or development phases.• Activities required to gain industry approval including (included but not restricted to) policy development, case for safety documentation and approval.• Presenting and supporting the council at industry and public forums. This contract will not be split into Lots, but it is recognised that a partner would require the capability to exercise the use of contracts, subcontracts and suppliers to support the contract requirements.
