How did you first hear about Thornton & Lowe?
We found Thornton & Lowe through an online search and once we made contact, an intial kickoff meeting was arranged with the Directors. Initially we worked on two civil engineering-related bids before moving into FM. We noticed an immediate improvement in our tender submissions, having success on smaller projects. In 2019/20 we moved onto Thornton & Lowe’s Bid Success Programme and since seen our success rates grow further.
What were you looking for in a solution?
We were looking for a partner who can support us across our very varied business. We don’t just focus on one area - you’ll see Totally Local Company everywhere in Stockport and further afield; from school kitchens to parks, playgrounds and even up trees!
We fix roads and clean, light and provide signs for the streets. We empty bins and help to keep the area secure. We clean schools and office spaces (and more), tidy grounds and dispose of waste too. Some of our services are predominantly in the public sector and some private, so we needed someone who could understand and support our complex business.
What made our solution stand out from the others that you researched?
We wanted to work with an established provider of tender services. Crucially, it was important for us to look more widely at our tendering – not just to look at when we should tender but also to decide where we shouldn’t tender. Finally, as a local company, it was important for us to work with a company from Greater Manchester, where possible.

Totally Local Company and Thornton & Lowe have worked together now for close to three years. We have worked together us on a number of bid and pre-bid work across our commercial business areas: Catering, Cleaning, Waste and Grounds. We have successfully secured multiple business wins as a result of this partnership and we have a number of projects ongoing.

Throughout 2021, we have worked very closely with Thornton & Lowe to not only improve our tender success rates but also to develop an efficient bid/no bid process and a library of pre-bid documents.
In 2021 we have worked in partnership winning close to three quarters of a million pounds new business, with five new schools joining our portfolio.
In addition, we have submitted further bids that have yet to be awarded.
