How do we work?
We use proven bid processes to increase chances of success when tendering for contracts.
Once a client has decided to proceed with a tender Thornton & Lowe will provide the following:
- Acceptance that the tender can be completed and submitted on time
- Timescales and deadlines (Project Plan)
- Full assessment of all tender documentation highlighting clarification questions and any further information and technical input required from the client
- Full bid writing and bid management service ensuring all questions are answered; all supporting evidence is in place, key company messages, USPs and win themes are clearly apparent and that the document is designed to ensure it stands out.
Depending on the project we can supply a full bid team to work from your offices. For example, most recently we supported a significant joint infrastructure bid with two national clients, which as well as us providing quality assurance, design and formatting from our head office in Bolton the project team included:
- Bid Director
- Bid Coordinator
- Bid Writer x 2.
In total our bid experts were onsite for five weeks and the project was completed on time and we have already been informed of the extreme satisfaction from the client.
This compared to a more basic PQQ for a client, which could be completed in anything from one day and would be completed by one of our experienced bid writers in conjunction with the client but largely from our office. This would then be reviewed by our bid manager, an experienced bid consultant, and by one of bid directors ensuring our tendering expertise is included in all bids we manage.
We benchmark performance so it can be broken down by tender stage, location, value, service description, ranking and feedback. This is essential to ensure continuous improvement. We build this into our in-house unique and creative software Tender Library.
Who would we work with in your company?
Typically, we either work with teams of tender writers to improve performance (PQQ, ITT, Interview success) and look to manage the workload more efficiently, or support Sales Directors, Managing Directors who may work with a PA/Admin Team to complete the documents but may find the workload overwhelming and do not have the success they thought they would. This is especially the case when carrying out a high number of mini-competitions from a framework, previously awarded.

We provide quotes prior to carrying out work based on the maximum number of expected hours. Where the number of hours exceeds our quote we do not charge extra. In the event that less time is spent on the work than quoted, we only invoice for the actual hours worked.
We tailor the service to every customer so for example if you have a ‘tender/bid team’ in place then we can work more on training, building up an effective tender library and providing an audit service. If you don’t, then we can actually write the whole tender document (apart from the prices) for you.
