Transport for Greater Manchester seeking contractors for £16M Wigan Bus Station project

Aug 16, 2016

With planning approval granted last April, Transport for Greater Manchester has begun the search for contractors to complete the £15.7 million project to regenerate Wigan bus station. The contract, expected to last 18 months and starting in 2017 will feature the construction of a new single, covered concourse building with 19 drive in, reverse out stands, modern waiting areas, cycle parking and improved access to and from the town centre. Transport for Greater Manchester have worked closely with consultants such as Mott MacDonald, Austin-Smith:Lord and IBI Group to develop the design, which hopes to open Wigan town centre to new commerce and tourism. Access will be made easier for those travelling to and from the bus station, providing a modern gateway with both the appearance and the facilities for service users. Invitations to tender are welcomed until 5th September 2016. Read full article here.
