Procurement decisions to be published by local authorities under new proposals

Under proposed central government changes local authorities will be required to publish procurement data on a central database and become more open to public scrutiny. On an annual basis, councils will be required to publish, details of what percentage of their procurement goes to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and how long it takes to pay invoices to SMEs. The government target of ensuring a third of procurement is awarded to SMEs by 2020 will also now apply to local government.
